Thailand : Urban Community Workers (OMF)


TEAM is partnering with OMF International in Thailand. OMF’s growing ministries in east Asia include everything from church planting, youth outreach, and medical ministries to teaching and working among minority people groups.

Do you have a heart for the urban poor? Do you have a desire to see God's Kingdom advance? Are you willing to work in a team? Do you have skills to reach needy communities? If you answered yes to the above questions, the following may be for you. Join a team of church planters seeking to establish communities of faith among the slums of Bangkok.

Major Responsibilities

Initiate friendships with those in the community

Live as a disciple of Christ in a cross-cultural setting

Learn Thai language and culture

Share stories of the gospel with the poor

Help other missionaries and Thai believers

Use your skills such as music, arts, sports or others to connect with the young people in the community

Help long-term missionaries and Thai Christian leaders


Interested applicants can apply either through TEAM (see below) or OMF.


Qualification & Experience 

Some experience in cross-cultural ministry

Ability to learn a foreign language

Ability to be a witness and share the gospel

Some experience working in teams

Flexible and friendly

Personal walk with God

Formal Bible training resulting in one or more of the following:

Certificate in Christian Ministry an Bible Training

Bachelor or Masters degree in Bible or Theology

Masters or higher in Divinity, or related field



Many workers needed

Male or female

Commit to 1 or more years of service

Raise full financial support

Attend Orientation Course in Singapore before coming to the field

Conform to a lifestyle that matches that of your ministry context.

Poor urban areas are crowded, with high population density and simple living conditions.


Requirements for 1-3 years of service:

Complete Associate application process including: application forms, interview, and medical review

Language and culture study for 3-9 months depending on length of stay


Requirements for more than 3 years:

Complete member application process including: application forms, interview, medical and psychological review.

1st year in full-time Thai language, culture and worldview study, located in Central Thailand

2nd year move to a ministry location; begin transition from full-time to half-time language study until the completion of full language and culture program


For English-as-a-second-language applicants, these levels of English assessment are required:

IELTS - 5.0

TOEFL - 500 (173 for computer version)

TOEIC - 675

OPE - 3.0
