Southern Africa : Kindergarten & Preschool Coordinator
Kindergarten and Preschool Coordinator needed for the Silverstream Education Centre on-site at the Rehoboth Children’s Village. Located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, Rehoboth Children’s Village is a home for orphaned and abandoned children who are either infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Rehoboth cares for their children in individual family homes with 4-5 children and one housemother per home. It is important for our children to have a family atmosphere as it aids in their ability to attach and bond, allowing them to learn to establish healthy relationships in the future. Rehoboth has a five-way holistic care program that meets all of the children’s needs: educational, emotional, educational, spiritual, and medical. By providing in all areas of a child’s life, we are providing the stable platform these children need in order to become functioning and influential individuals in their South African community.
Currently we educate 58 children on-site through the Silverstream Education Centre. The education centre opened last November and we’ve had a great first year. We need more teachers to meet the educational needs of these wonderful children. We need a Kindergarten teacher who also serves as the Preschool Coordinator. This person would teach daily as well as oversee the teachers in the preschool area and provide curriculum assistance.
The curriculum at Silverstream Education Centre is the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) program. It would be extremely helpful for a teacher to already have knowledge of this system, but it is not essential. We do ask that you be willing to go to training for the ACE program if you are not already familiar.
It is important that we have a teacher come for a minimum of 1 year, as it is essential to have stability in the lives of our children. Being here for one year will allow the children to attach and bond to their teacher and encourage them to be great learners.
Willingness to learn the language and culture.
Humble, teachable, loving spirit.
Good communication and relational skills.
Ability to work effectively on a multicultural teaching team.
Appropriate teaching qualification
